ACTIVITIES include extensions to customize lessons for varied interests and needs for student communication (read, write, speak) and collaboration among digital learners.
Teacher participants: Please choose one or more of the following activities:

Decorate a Door: Discuss scenes from When Donkeys Fly or parts of the cover. Decorate the classroom door with your students’ handiwork using your art supplies or technology tools.
Include appropriate sentence structure guidelines for your level.
  • take a picture of your door and share in Google Docs
  • create a scene in Google Draw
  • add to our collection of pictures and comments on Voicethread
  • share goals and dreams about your future with video conference on Skype

Add a Scene: Talk about how students feel about events in the story or memories the book evokes. What would you add to this story? Create class or individual comics using your own art supplies or use Comic Creator from ReadWriteThink. Tips: Scroll through the backgrounds to brainstorm and to familiarize the students with the choices. Include appropriate sentence structure guidelines for your level.

Create Your Sequel: Brainstorm titles for sequels to When Donkeys Fly. What titles would students like to suggest to the author? Use your own art supplies or use Book Cover Creator from ReadWriteThink. Include appropriate book cover content guidelines for your level.

  • plan your sequel using a storyboard and read for video clip

Animate a book review or synopsis: Create a graphic organizer to include title, author, illustrator, and how this book has helped you make plans to follow a dream of your own. Graphic organizers can be created with your interactive white board tools, Kidspiration software, or an online tool such as bubbl.us http://www.bubbl.us/. Animate your pictures using Crazy Talk software or an online tool such as blabberize http://blabberize.com/
